BY HAND
Sewing has been an essential part of human existence since early humans began stitching together animal hides. As advancements in technology have brought convenience to the forefront of human life, sewing has evolved accordingly. Today, there is a global emphasis on the accelerated construction of garments and accessories. Mass production, and even sometimes small scale production has been completely digitized. At Maine Leather Company, the emphasis is instead on each piece being made by hand through a thoughtful process, from design to creation.
DESIGN
Cutting and stitching, each piece of leather is brought to life. For me, the design process has less to do with pencil on paper and more hands on leather. Much more than a bag or leather object, these pieces are extensions of my imagination.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Leather is inherently durable, and I want the stitching to match that. Not only does hand stitching add an intrinsic beauty to the piece, but the method in which the thread is stitched, enhances the quality - a factor that I refuse to sacrifice.
TRANSPARENCY
A Maine-based company sources our leather via an American operated tannery located in León, Guanajuato Mexico. All of the hardware used in the creation of these pieces is solid brass, sourced from a New England based company.
